Do
you dream of hiking to the top of a mountain and looking
out at the views that span for miles and miles? Have you
ever thought about owning your own North Carolina
mountain home with private views and peaceful
surroundings? When you live in the gorgeous Western
North Carolina Mountain region of Alleghany County and
Sparta you will enjoy all of the exhilarating outdoor
fun activities you can experience, while living in one
of the most beautiful places in the country. Here you
can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, golf, fishing,
canoeing and even white water rafting within the
breathtaking setting of the Blue Ridge Mountains. On
this page we’ve tried to provide a bit of information on
the many great places to enjoy hiking in North Carolina.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is probably the best place to
start if you want to enjoy the hiking in and around
Sparta and Alleghany County. Here you can find an
abundance of great hiking trails and panoramic views.
Hike the 15 minute loop up to Cumberland Knob (Mile Post
217), venture atop Mahogany Mountain (Mile Post 235) and
see the hawks fly over, or spend the day exploring Doughton Park (Mile Post 238) with its seven thousand
acres of unspoiled wilderness.
For other
hiking in the area, check out the state parks in the
region. Stone Mountain State Park is a great place to
enjoy the natural beauty of the area and hikers can try
their hand at hiking all the way to the dome’s 600 foot
summit. The park contains more than 14,000 acres of
forested lands and also is a renowned spot for rock
climbing. New River State Park, located just a short
drive away, is also a special place to enjoy hiking as
there are many trails and paved walkways for visitors to
enjoy.
